All You Need Is a High School Diploma to Get Started
The good news is that all you need to start your sonography program at Cambridge is a high school diploma. Our two-year Associate degree program offers everything you need, including your general studies, to start your career in sonography.
What You’ll Learn During Your Program
During your time here at Cambridge, you’ll study a wide variety of subjects to ensure you have the knowledge and skills required for career success. Some of the courses you’ll take include:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Introduction to Health Sciences
- Medical Terminology
- General Physics
- Sonographic Anatomy
- Principles of OB/GYN Sonography
- Echocardiography
- Pharmacology
Additional Requirements to Become a Sonographer
Completing all of the necessary courses inside your two-year program is only the first step in becoming a sonographer.
You’ll also need to complete a hands-on, clinical externship where you’ll practice your ultrasound skills in the real world. Cambridge partners with area medical facilities to offer clinical externships in various disciplines.
With your externship complete and your degree in hand, you can opt to obtain certification in ultrasound through the ARDMS. Although this isn’t necessarily required to practice sonography, many healthcare facilities require it for employment. After licensing, you’ll be ready to start your career as an entry-level sonographer.
