How Long Does It Take to Become a Nursing Assistant

A nursing assistant is assisting a patient in a hospital room

Nursing assistants are in high demand across Florida and the US as a whole. They play a critical role in patient care, administering medications, checking vital signs, communicating with doctors and more. If you’re ready to enter the medical field quickly, you should consider becoming a nursing assistant.

Cambridge College’s Nursing Assistant program is fast-paced and only that takes only a couple months to complete. Once completed, you will be ready to take the certification exam and can start work right away.

How to Become a Nursing Assistant

To become a nursing assistant, you’ll first need your high school diploma. You should then attend an accredited Nursing Assistant program to learn all there is to know about basic patient care. Once you finish your program, you’ll need to take and pass the Florida Nursing Assistant certification exam.

And once you pass the exam, you’ll become a licensed certified nursing assistant or CNA that can work in a wide variety of facilities.

What to Expect During Your Nursing Assistant Program

It may seem daunting to enter and complete a Nursing Assistant program. At Cambridge, we aim to make it as simple as possible without sacrificing education and training. Our Nursing Assistant program only takes five weeks to complete or 120 clock hours.

During the program, you’ll learn how to record and capture vital signs, how to provide general patient care and how to administer various medications. You’ll also be required to complete externship hours at local healthcare facilities which will help you practice your newfound medical skills.

Finding a Job After Graduation & Certification

After you graduate from your Nursing Assistant program and obtain certification, you’ll need to find a new position. As mentioned earlier, you can choose from a wide range of facilities to work in, including hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, long-term care facilities and more.

If you struggle to find the right position for you, don’t fret. As a student of Cambridge, you have access to our Career Services department. We offer everything from interview practice to job placement in local healthcare facilities.

We’re proud to be able to place CNAs in new positions often. Our dedicated staff does what it takes to ensure you’re confident and able to take on your new career in nursing.
