Medical assistants spend their days supporting medical professionals in performing patient care. For example, medical assistants prep patients for exams, perform injections, greet and check-in patients and even perform administrative tasks.
Are you interested in becoming a certified medical assistant? If so, there are certain requirements that must be met. The good news is that becoming a medical assistant doesn’t take too long at all.
The first step to becoming a medical assistant is to obtain your high school diploma. The next step is to attend an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program such as the one offered through Cambridge.
Our Certified Medical Assistant program takes approximately 36 weeks to complete from start to finish. That’s less than a year! During this time, you’ll learn everything you need to know for career success, from how to care for your patients to recording vitals.
After you receive your certificate, you’ll need to become certified. You have the choice between obtaining your Medical Assistant certification or going after a Basic X-Ray Operator certification (or both). This can take a few weeks to a few months, depending on when you take your exams.
Once you become certified, the final step is to find the perfect medical assistant job. Medical assistants have a wide range of choices when it comes to deciding where they want to work. For example, you can work in a doctor’s office, clinic, hospital or even a specialty care center.
Start by searching for jobs in your area by using posting websites such as Indeed or Monster. It’s also helpful to scour the websites of the companies you want to work for to find current job openings.
The job search part of becoming a medical assistant can take some time. It all depends on the job market and availability in your area. Cambridge can help by providing our job placement services.
