On Tuesday, June 17th, 2025, the Miami campus hosted a career fair with employer partner HCA. An event that would set Cambridge apart from the competition.
HCA Healthcare consists of 186 hospitals and approximately 2,400 sites of care in 20 states and the United Kingdom. I’ve been partnering with HCA since 2021. Division Director of Talent Acquisition, Steven Mickholtzick and me, connected one Sunday afternoon on LinkedIn. He was gracious enough to schedule time to speak with me about Cambridge College. As we began to talk, I shared with Steven just who we were. What our level of commitment is to our students and how hard we work as a team to shape and mold skilled medical professionals. Our relationship has flourished over the years, and he has made it his mission to ensure that I am partnering with his Lead recruiters, Associate recruiters and Clinical Directors. The Miami campus has consistently had significantly sized Nursing Assistant co-horts. I was struggling with getting our Miami and Delray Nursing Assistant into HCA facilities. I have never been one to accept no, and it was my constant persistence that allowed me to set up a career day at the Miami campus. A career day that would see Steven, lead recruiter Zoe and associate recruiter Elsa come out and speak with students about HCA and all the opportunities that they have access to.
The presentation was for recent NA grads, alumni, PN and ASN students. Steven, Zoe and Elsa scheduled interviews with students on the spot. What made this day so special was that HCA got the opportunity to see the campus, meet the students, faculty and see exactly what Cambridge College of Healthcare is all about. Once we concluded the career fair. I introduced them to Jorge Valdes-DMS Program Dean. Steven, said to Jorge. Your Ultrasound program is huge. How do we hire more of your students? How do we get them into positions with us earlier in their career? Jorge replied. How many students can we give you? Jocelyn has them ready to go, and she manages this well. Jorge mentioned the need for more clinical sites and openings. Steven stated he would put me in touch with the Director of Clinical Education so we can make it happen. We then took a tour of the campus that showcased our DMS Lab, Nursing Labs and simulation, RXT and MA/PHL labs. On our tour, we stopped, and I showed them our Career Closet. A closet that consists of new to gently wear men’s and women’s clothing. I recognized that there are students who can’t afford professional business attire and, with the help of our Campus President building clothing racks, the vision became reality. Then we sat down to debrief. Steven said, “You guys have a great thing here. You have truly covered all the bases. I spoke with students at another college a couple of weeks ago, and I will tell you this. The energy that your students have is refreshing. Every time your students come into one of our facilities to interview, they are prepared, professional, highly skilled and ready to work. We know when we see Cambridge on their resume that they are going to be a great fit. To hear that what we do on a daily basis with students is being recognized by one of the largest hospitals in the United States is remarkable. In closing, I recalled an earlier conversation with Peter, when we spoke about me asking Steven to be our guest speaker at graduation. It was now or never. This was my chance. I asked, and the response was “I would be honored to.”
