Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Radiology is one of the best ways to jumpstart your career. In fact, students who successfully obtain a bachelor’s degree in Radiology have a wide range of career options available to them.

Choose From Several Rewarding Diagnostic Imaging Careers

With the knowledge and skills gained during a Bachelor’s in Radiology program, you may qualify for a number careers, including:

  • Radiologist: A physician who used medical imaging equipment to diagnose and treat medical symptoms is often called a Radiologist. Radiologists are trained to use a wide range of diagnostic imaging equipment, including x-ray, mammography, CT scans and more.
  • Radiologic Technologist: Using x-ray and other diagnostic imaging machines, Radiologic Technologists capture medical images used by physicians to diagnose and treat medical conditions. Radiologic Technologists often work as part of a larger care team and are tasked with maintaining imaging equipment, verifying image accuracy and quality and supporting patients during imaging processes.
  • Pediatric Radiographer: Individuals interested in working with children may choose a career in Pediatric Radiography. Pediatric Radiographers perform many of the same duties as Radiologic Technologists while focusing on making young patients feel at ease during imaging processes.
  • Cardiovascular Radiologic Technologist: Using radiography equipment, Cardiovascular Radiologic Technologists study a patient’s heart to determine its health and current condition. Cardiovascular Radiologic Technologists many types of diagnostic imaging equipment including Electrocardiograms.
  • Ultrasound Technologist: Using diagnostic imagery, an Ultrasound Technicians conduct tests on a wide range of body parts. While most often tasked to determine the sex and condition of a fetus, Ultrasound Technicians also perform a wide range of sonography examinations, including obstetric, gynecologic, abdominal, cardiac and more.
  • MRI Technologist: To support physicians or radiologists, MRI Technologists use a Magnetic Resonance Scanner to create 2-d and 3-d maps of specific tissues within a patient’s body. MRI Technologists are tasked with maintaining and utilizing complex technology, advising and supporting patients, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of images for physician use.

It is important to remember that some careers may require specialized training or classes during or after a Bachelor’s degree program. In these cases, identifying your goals early in your education can help to avoid additional training.

Most careers in the Radiology field require certification and ongoing education.
