Where Will You Work as an Atlanta Medical Assistant?
As a medical assistant, you have the option to choose from a wide range of workplaces. For example, you may choose to work in a specialty clinic working with cardiac patients, pediatric patients or patients requiring physical therapy. Or you may work in an emergency department within a hospital or a maternity and birthing ward.

What Will Your Schedule Look Like?
Your daily schedule will differ depending on where you choose to work. Many places such as clinics operate on a typical 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, so you’ll work the dayshift. Other facilities such as hospitals are open 24 hours a day, which means you may work the nightshift. Many medical assistants work 8-hour days, but some do work 12-hour days.
You may also have the opportunity to choose a schedule that fits your family’s needs best. For example, you may be able to work weekends to make time during the week for family responsibilities. Or you may be able to work flex time.
What Will You Do Each Day as a Medical Assistant?
Your role as a medical assistant is dynamic. You’ll be responsible for caring for patients as well as various clerical duties.
Medical Duties
You’ll work alongside medical professionals to provide care to patients. This will look different each day and with each patient. Some of the most common medical responsibilities include:
- Obtaining urine and fluid samples
- Taking patient vitals
- Performing minor surgical procedures
- Drawing blood and turning it into the lab
- Changing wound dressings
- Performing in-depth medical histories
- Administering medications and injections
Clerical Duties
As a medical assistant, you’ll also be responsible for many clerical duties such as:
- Entering patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Recording procedures and diagnoses
- Billing and coding procedures for insurance purposes
- Scheduling appointments and procedures
