The medical field is ever-evolving and growing to meet the demands of the US population. Due to this growth, many healthcare facilities in Orlando are looking to hire medical professionals fast. If you’re ready to take advantage of this growth, a medical assistant career might be a great choice for you.
You Don’t Need a Two-Year or Four-Year Degree to Enter the Medical Field
The more traditional route to a medical career consists of a two-year or four-year degree. Yet, these aren’t your only options. Through our Medical Assistant program, you can finish your certificate in just 36 weeks. This means you’ll be ready for entry-level employment in under a year.
During your program, you’ll learn everything you need for success in the field. Your studies will include medical terminology, patient care, laboratory testing, anatomy and so much more. After completion, you’ll be eligible to sit for the certification exams, preparing you for a successful career.
What Is a Medical Assistant?
A medical assistant supports other medical professionals such as doctors and nurses in all aspects of patient care. You’ll find medical assistants in hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, long-term care facilities and inpatient facilities.
Your Job Responsibilities as a Medical Assistant
Medical assistants are similar to nurses, yet they typically have both clinical and administrative responsibilities. Not only do they care for patients in-person, but they also perform clerical work to keep patient care running smoothly. For example, some of your clinical responsibilities may include:
- Administering medications and injections
- Prepping patients for exams and procedures
- Performing small procedures such as suture removal
- Taking and recording patient vitals such as blood pressure
- Drawing blood for laboratory testing
- Preparing patients for diagnostic tests such as x-rays
When you’re not supporting patients face-to-face, you’ll be answering patient phone calls, updating patient records, coding and billing for insurance, and supporting the medical team.
Medical Assistant Job Outlook
Medical assistants are in high demand across the US and the Orlando area. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, open positions for medical assistants are expected to increase by 19% between now and 2029. This is serious growth. In fact, it’s much faster than average growth for other careers.
