Cambridge Career Services Holds Lunch and Learn Seminar with Advent Health

healthcare event

On February 20, 2019 Career Services held our 2nd Lunch and Learn Seminar. This evening we held “Dinner & Learn” for our evening & day Phlebotomy students. We had Marlin Simmons, Senior Recruiter from Advent Health present to speak with our students regarding opportunities to work at Advent Health, formally Florida Hospital. He spoke with the students regarding positions they recruit for such as Laboratory Assistant I, Laboratory II, and Laboratory Lead and how students can grow and be promoted into a vast number of positions.

The sky is the limit! Marlin engaged the students on what he looks for on a resume, prescreen questions, interviews, credentials, professionalism, as well as the benefits of working for the #1 Hospital in Orlando. We had a full house present with our instructor Lakisha Smith who asked “how can she better prepare our students for opportunities with Advent Health after graduation. One thing Marlin stated was to make sure the students take their certification exam, be prepared, differentiate yourself, and practice your interview skills with Career Services so you are ready to go! Typically Marlin has anywhere from 35-95 openings for all his different specialties so he does not spend much time on a resume. Resumes need to look good, be sharp, be different and also have key words on them! Know your strengths.

Advent Health has hired many of our graduates in Phlebotomy and we will continue to partner with them as our students finish and graduate so they can begin their career! We thank Marlin Simmons and Advent Health for coming out and speaking with our students!
