Step #1: Become a Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant
Your first step after graduating is to become a Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant. Your program will only take approximately five weeks to complete or 120 clock hours.
Next, you’ll need to take and pass the required Nursing Assistant certification exam for your state, if applicable. When you pass, you’ll become licensed and ready for entry-level employment.
Step #2: Land the Perfect Job in Your Dream Medical Facility
After licensing, you’re ready to find the perfect job. As a nursing assistant, you have a ton of choices when it comes to where to work. For example, you can choose to work in a hospital, doctor’s office or in other facilities such as:
- Long-term care facilities
- Cancer care centers
- Therapy centers
You also have the opportunity to choose a specific specialty to work in. For example, if you enjoy working with babies, you can apply for positions in maternity wards. Or, if you enjoy working with the elderly, a long-term care facility might be a great choice.

Step #3: Enjoy Your New Day-to-Day Life as a CNA
As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you’ll spend your days taking care of patients and their families. For example, you may help patients with daily tasks such as toileting, exercising and eating. Or, you might assist nurses with tasks like giving injections, providing therapy and educating patients on their health needs.
