2. Communication Skills
Communication is a critical part of a medical assistant’s daily work. For example, you’ll need to communicate with medical professionals regarding patient work. You’ll also need to speak with patients and their families, sometimes delivering difficult to understand medical information.

Your day-to-day will include a wide range of tasks, some occurring simultaneously. For example, you may need to respond to patient messages while caring for patients in person. You’ll also need to listen to a patient discuss their newest symptoms while entering those symptoms into the medical record.
5. Computer Skills
A lot of your work will include some form of technology, most often a computer. For example, you may need to add detailed medical information into a medical record. Or, if you work on the administrative side, you may need to use billing and coding tools to accurately bill insurance companies.
